This is by no means an exhaustive list, but it’s a roundup of the top 5 email and marketing automation tools we’ve used.
We’ve tried a lot of CRMs, autoresponders and automation platforms over the years. Most of them do pretty much the same thing as each other. However there are a few options that are more suitable to certain business.
For example, MailChimp is great for a business that’s starting out, as well as eCommerce businesses. But it’s not great to use as a funnel builder, building funnels for other businesses.
It’s about selecting the right tool for the job. There’s never going to be a perfect solution, that does everything you need it to. Sometimes it’s about getting a tool that does 95% and being happy with that.
Also, just because you’re using 1 tool, doesn’t mean there are better one’s out there. It also doesn’t mean yours is the best. What works for you, might not work for someone else.
We’ll start at number 5, working our way to our top email tool. We’ll also include an idea of who is best suited to use each tool, as well a few pros and cons.
HubSpot and AutoPilot
HubSpot didn’t make the list because their pricing is on the higher side, despite many other tools offering the same features. Their community and integrations are great, but hardly worth the jump in price. AutoPilot, while being relatively new to the scene, makes automation journeys very easy to create. But it’s lacking certain email and design features that others tools do offer.
Campaign Monitor is designed for designers, agencies and is very popular with web and design professionals. It’s a particularly affordable option for smaller companies, who are looking to start regular emails and email automation.
Campaign monitors pricing is very reasonable and they offer most of the features that auto responder customers are looking for. However, there automation and reporting could be tidied up a little.
It integrates with almost everything that your business would require, but lacks extensive customer support and also doesn’t offer image hosting. If you’re looking for a tool for your own marketing funnel business, you won’t go far wrong.
One of the best features about GetResponse Is it inbuilt photo library. GetResponse is designed for marketers and small businesses, focusing on landing page creation and email campaigns.
It’s pricing is very reasonable, and its email design process is also very simple and easy to use. It’s particularly useful to have landing pages and emails in one platform. However you could argue that their landing page design needs a little work.
On the other hand duplicate contacts count toward your monthly limit. So having multiple contacts across multiple lists, can work out to be expensive.
MailChimp holds a special place for our founder Mike. It was the first tool that he really began to build automation processes in. In terms of email design, it’s absolutely outstanding. The Pro package offers fantastic insights through its analytics and reporting. MailChimp originally seemed to be aimed at small businesses starting out. Rather than full-blown marketing agencies, or funnel builders.
However over time they have begun to position themselves more as an e-commerce email provider. Their integrations and automations for purchases using platforms such as Shopify, Our very advance.
However, their automation is very basic and doesn’t offer the flexibility that other platforms do.
InfusionSoft is often referred to as the gold standard of automation platforms. It’s designed at large-scale businesses, especially B2B. It has many advanced features that could replace your entire website, such as landing page and automation design.
It offers almost every automation required that you could think of. However, there is a steep learning curve and its pricing is pretty expensive. You even have to front $1000 to start using Infusionsoft.
Having said all that it is a fantastic option for marketing funnel builders, who are looking to build complex and sophisticated automation funnels, for their customers.
ActiveCampaign is without a doubt our favourite email marketing automation tool. It not only offers a fantastic suite of automation and email tools, but it’s lead segmentation, lead scoring, tagging and list systems are outstanding.
It has a very robust automation platform which can do things outside of standard emails including social media posting and membership content.
It has a fantastic partner pricing platform, which allows marketing funnel builders to control their customers subscriptions. Which makes it easier to mitigate against late payments and invoices. However, there email builder leaves a lot to be desired, compared to something like GetResponse or MailChimp.
If you’re looking to build marketing automation platforms, for customers, and offer them a CRM or auto responder system. Look no further than ActiveCampaign.
